Vintage lipa songke sarong traditional costume from lambaleda, flores. A centerpiece of traditional costume for men & women.

These beautiful textiles are often heavily decorated along the front, this one both colorful and intricate. Featuring several traditional motifs, most notably the talaq or star from there local language. The colorful jok triangles along the bottom hem pay homage to their centuries old influences from india. This amazing weave uses a special discontinuous, supplementary-weft technique, a sign of exceptional quality. A prize piece for any collector or appreciator of cultural textiles.

Measures 188cm doubled x 140cm. This is from my grandmothers personal collection. She spent much of the 1960s's through the 1980's traveling across the indonesian archipelago. Throughout her travels she documented and cataloged what she learned of the various cultures and their handicrafts, textiles in particular.

Over the decades she has accumulated thousands of exceptional pieces, many of which are no longer available or their cultures and origins no longer exist.
